Workers changed out the signs on what used to be the Old Town Flying Pig, which is now Elke's Beer Haus.  The new place, we are told has a German Flair.

FLOWER MOUND, TEXAS – April 3, 2014 – When people need a gathering place, they need look no further than their local YMCA, but a lack of income can prevent access. To help remove this barrier, the CoServ Charitable Foundation presented $10,000 to the Cross Timbers Family YMCA in Flower Mound on Tuesday, April 3.

The donation goes into their Annual Campaign, which allocates money between reducing fees for economically disadvantaged residents and special outreach programs.

“These funds support giving back to the community,” said Jason Walter, Executive Director of YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. “Our goal this year is to raise $136,000.”

One of the special programs the YMCA will focus on is “Make a Splash,” which offers free swimming lessons to children who live in area apartment complexes because, according to their website, a growing number of children are left unsupervised at apartment-complex pools while their parents work. Last year, the YMCA taught at six apartment complexes. This year, they’re aiming for 10.

“Working families need as much support as they can get,” said CCF Executive Director Dennis Engelke.  “We’ve partnered with the Cross Timbers Y for some time now, and we’re glad to do it.”

Bluebonnets were in full bloom Thursday on the South side of FM 3040 just across the city limits in Flower Mound.

Those wishing to take pictures in bluebonnets are urged to be mindful not to step on, sit on, or otherwise crush the delicate flowers, since that will prevent them from seeding for the following year.

A resident who lives near Purnell and Harvest Hill wants drivers to slow down in her neighborhood.  People often cut through on Surf to Purnell and across to Edmonds Lane to avoid the traffic and signals on Main Street at Edmonds.  Residential streets in Lewisville mostly are 25 mile-per-hour speed zones.
