Open in new windowDistrict 65 State Rep Ron Simmons, who represents parts of Dallas, Carrollton, Highland Village, and the Eastern and Northern parts of Lewisville will host a town hall session Wednesday night at the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater in Old Town Lewisville.

Simmons will have a meet and greet with constituents from 6 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and host a town hall meeting from 6:30 - 8 p.m. where he will answer questions from constituents.

Simmons will also receive the "Courageous Conservative" award from the Texas Conservative Coalition, a legislative caucus on which Simmons sits. Simmons' district director Mark Yarbrough assures us that although the group had posted the event and billed it as a chance to "discuss conservative victories", this is not a political event, and constituents from any part of the political spectrum are welcome to attend.

What: HD65 Town Hall Meeting with State Representative Ron Simmons
Where: MCL Grand Theater - 100 N. Charles St., Lewisville, TX 75057
When: Wednesday, September 18th, 6:00 p.m (Meet and greet) 6:30 p.m. (Town Hall)
Who: General public invited.
RSVP: Not required, but staff would appreciate getting a head count. Email to RSVP or for more information.

The City of Lewisville, which operates the MCL Grand Theater is providing the facility without the customary rental fee because the city's policy is to allow the use of the venue for governmental purposes such as town hall meetings without charge. Facility Director Jim Wear said Monday that it was their impression that the event was to be non-political, and thus the city would let it be used for free. There was some confusion this weekend when Simmons posted a link to the Conservative Coalition's RSVP page to the event, rather than constructing their own. Yarbrough assures us that Simmons is not trying to stack the audience with conservatives, and that all are welcome, even without RSVP. LTJ had intended to post information about the Town Hall this weekend, until we saw the RSVP page, and became concerned that it might be a political event.

Yarbrough said that Simmons is looking forward to hearing input from his constituents, and would prioritize input from them first, followed by that of guests from outside the district if time allows.

The Lewisville Texan Journal plans on shooting video of the event to post here later in the week.
