Brave Combo Plays Free Concert Tuesday Night for Sounds of Lewisville

Open in new windowBrave Combo will perform June 10 as the second act of the free “Sounds of Lewisville” outdoor concert series in historic Old Town Lewisville.

The series is held in the courtyard at Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street, where the concerts have been held since 2011. When construction is completed on Old Town Park Plaza across the street from the art center, the concerts will move to the permanent stage and grass lawn in the new park.

A family favorite since 1991, the concerts start at 7 p.m. every Tuesday night in June and July. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for their comfort. Well-behaved pets on a leash are allowed at the shows. Attendees can bring their own food and beverage, or purchase refreshments on site, but no outside alcohol is permitted. Concerts are presented by Lewisville Convention and Visitors Bureau with assistance from Parks and Leisure Services and the MCL Grand.

For the past three decades the Denton-based quintet Brave Combo has perfected a world music mix that includes salsa, meringue, rock, cumbia, conjunto, polka, zydeco, classical, cha cha, the blues and more.

Brave Combo’s catalog of recordings range from Japanese pop to Latin American dance tunes, to the orchestral classics to rock and roll at its finest. The band has recorded with the late Tiny Tim, and were the band Talking Head’s David Byrne chose for his wedding reception. The band has won two Grammy Awards and been nominated for its work seven times.

Intermission entertainment will feature The Alpine Dancers, showcasing dances and traditions of the alpine regions of Europe.

Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, located at 100 N. Charles Street, is the premier public arts facility in Southern Denton County. The 40,000-square-foot facility features a 296-seat proscenium theater, black box theater, dance recital hall, art gallery, five art classrooms and a large courtyard. Medical Center of Lewisville has a multi-year agreement with the city for naming rights at the center.
