Library offers numerous March youth programs

The Lewisville Public Library, 1197 W. Main Street, has numerous classes and programs on tap for the month of March. For more information on any of these events, contact the Youth Services Desk at 972.219.3577 or visit

Tax assistance available at the Lewisville Senior Center
Free tax assistance will take place each Monday through April 12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Lewisville Senior Center, 1950 A S. Valley Parkway.
This free tax help from the AARP is open to individuals (no businesses) 50 years and older. To make a reservation, call 972.219.5050. Phone in registration can be done one week in advance starting at 8:30 a.m.

March 21st - Live Music at the Library - Acoustic Jam
1:30-4:30 p.m., Children’s Program Room

The Lewisville Acoustic Society invites all to play or listen to live music at the Lewisville Public Library. The group of musicians play acoustic instruments and share songs in an informal, welcoming atmosphere. Those attending do not have to play an instrument to visit the jam session. Music lovers of all ages are welcome to enjoy an afternoon of live music. Musicians are asked to bring acoustic instruments only and be ready to share a song with the rest of the group.

The group meets on the Third Sunday of each month.

March 22nd - DCTA Public Meeting
Denton County Transportation Authority is offering two opportunities for the public to stay connected to its transit improvement efforts. Public meetings will be held March 22 in Lewisville and March 23 in Denton.

The public meetings will provide a report on the A-train passenger rail line currently under construction, as well as an update on DCTA’s other capital projects including a new bus maintenance facility. Information about the start of DCTA’s long-range planning effort also will be presented.

The first meeting will be held Monday, March 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the Glenmore Savage Community Room at the Lewisville Municipal Annex, 1197 W. Main Street (accessible using DCTA Connect Routes 20 and 21). The Denton meeting will be held the next evening at the Fred Moore High School gym, 815 Cross Timbers Street (Connect Route 2), at 6:30 p.m.

March 27th - Natural landscape Design Workshop
A free natural landscape design workshop, hosted by the City of Lewisville, the Upper Trinity Regional Water District and Keep Lewisville Beautiful, will be held Saturday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to noon at the UTRWD, 900 N. March 27th - 23rd Annual Funny Bunny Festival
The City of Lewisville Parks & Leisure Services, Funny Bunny Festival will be held at Railroad Park located at 1301 Railroad St. Lewisville, TX 75067 on Saturday, March 27, 2009 from 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Come visit with the Funny Bunny, play carnival games, and get your face painted for your $1 admission fee. Photos can be taken with the Funny Bunny for a minimal charge. At 11:30 a.m. our annual old fashioned egg hunts will be held in the ball field areas. Ages will be notated. Parents will not be permitted to enter into the egg hunt area with their children nor will strollers be permitted in these areas. Egg hunt participants under the age of 3 should be accompanied by one parent only. The Lewisville Noon Rotary Club will be preparing a pancake breakfast. $4 per person. Children 10 and under $2. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., under the pavilion. Souvenir portraits and concessions will also be available at a minimal cost. March 27th - Visual Art League Hosts Todd Hallawell Concert
The Visual Art League of Lewisville has announced a first-time concert
event with guest artist Todd Hallawell on Saturday, March 27, at 7 p.m., at
the Visual Art League of Lewisville Gallery. Admission is $15.

Hallawell has received numerous awards as a guitarist, including the prestigious National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship of Winfield, Kansas and the Southwest Regional Fingerpicking Guitar Championship in Tucson, Arizona.

The Visual Art League of Lewisville is located at 701 S. Stemmons Fwy., #115 in the Lewisville West Shopping Center, west side of 1-35 between Main Street and Fox Avenue. Visual Arts League (VAL) is one of six local groups receiving funding from the Greater Lewisville Arts Council through the City of Lewisville grant program designed to foster cultural and fine arts in the community. March 27th - 2010 Regional Amateur Skateboard Tour in Lewisville
The 2010 Regional Amateur Skateboard Tour, The RAT, is scheduled to
kick-off on March 27 at Railroad Park in Lewisville.

Railroad Park is a 250-acre recreational facility in Lewisville that officially opened Nov. 2. The park, located on the east side of Railroad Street between Hebron Parkway and Business 121, has eight soccer fields, four football fields, four baseball fields, a dog park and a long-awaited skatepark with a variety of obstacles including steps, ramps, rails and an in-ground bowl. This will be the first organized skate competition at the facility.

Created in 2009 by Dallas-based Geiger Media, The RAT Skate Tour will consist of six events across Texas and Oklahoma. The series was created to give local skaters an opportunity to compete against their peers in a relaxed, fun environment. The 2010 series will start in Lewisville on March 27, then travel to Corpus Christi on May 29, Oklahoma City on June 19, Round Rock on Sept. 11, New Braunfels on Oct. 9 and the series will wrap up in Houston on Nov. 13. April 5th - Lewisville City Council Meeting
The Lewisville City Council meets at 7:00 PM on the first and third Mondays of each month at City Hall, 151 West Church Street, Lewisville, TX [Map]. The public is invited to attend. Citizens may address the Mayor and Council during the Visitor's Forum, although no action can be taken on any item not on the agenda. Agendas are posted here no later than 72 hours in advance of a meeting.

April 8th - LISD School Board Candidate Forum - DCRC
Denton County Republican Club hosts an LISD school board candidate forum at the Lewisville Chamber of Commerce, 551 N. Valley Parkway in Lewisville at 7 PM.

April 19th - Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees Meeting
LISD Board of Trustees meetings are held in the Board Room of the William T. Bolin Administrative Center, 1565 W. Main St., Lewisville, at 7 p.m.
