Lewisville Republicans to Host Conspiracy Luncheon

On Valentine’s Day, we received—indirectly, of course—an interesting email invitation to the Lewisville Area Republican Club (LARC) monthly meeting on February 22:
The special event will feature guest speaker Cathie Adams, who chaired the Republican Party of Texas before being ousted eight months later. Adams has attracted national attention for her comments in the past, which include an assertion late last year that President Obama “has got to have a teleprompter because he fried his brain on drugs”.
Today, Adams serves as the “international issues chairman” of the Eagle Forum, where she specializes in “threats to U.S. sovereignty from UN conferences, treaties, and trade agreements”. Among the subjects to be discussed at the meeting will be “Agenda 21”, a supposed United Nations conspiracy to take over the United States through encouragement of sustainability. Adams writes a blog on TexasGOP.com detailing many of her theories. The Denton County Republican Party has focused much attention on these conspiracy theories, even screening a documentary dedicated to them in September of last year.

It will be interesting to see which elected officials and candidates attend the meeting to support Adams and her beliefs. While Lewisville Councilman John Gorena has dedicated an entire page on his website to the Agenda 21 conspiracy and seems fully sold on the idea, others have yet to voice their opinion on the subject.
